All the vampire wants is to do his job, head home to his coffin, and get his paycheque on time. Too bad for him that his boss can’t seem to wrap his head around the fact that this particular employee is an actual vampire, with all that goes along with it. Night after night, the boss is constantly calling the vampire into his office with complaints about his job performance.
Like the fact that the vampire leaves everyday at dawn, when everyone else sticks around until the work is done. Or the fact that the vampire takes long lunches. You try stalking, attacking and drinking the blood of a human – and then getting back to the office in 45 minutes!
Each of the six episodes revolves around a specific complain the boss has about the vampire’s work habits…
The vampire had “an altercation” with a co-worker when she was showing off her new necklace and crucifix.
The vampire can’t use the photocopier – the UV from it is like sunlight and will turn him to dust.
He’s not trying to be impolite, but the vampire just can’t eat the garlic lasagna.
At 400 years old, the vampire is past the company’s mandatory age for retirement.
What gives this series legs is that the comedy comes from an unexpected source. The vampire, the fish out of water in this concept, is the straight man. The comedy comes from the boss, and his inability to accept that the vampire isn’t like everyone else. The vampire comes across as the reasonable one, only reacting as you and I might when confronted by the ridiculous suggestions of a bad boss. The vampire doesn’t wear a cape, and he doesn’t have a Transylvanian accent. He’s presented as an average Joe.
Job Review with a Vampire is a hysterical collision of vampire clichés with the banality of a dead end office job. Not only will fans love seeing their favourite vampire legends lampooned, they will also identify with the vampire’s no-win position. And love him for it.
